Sugar

Sugar

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the band's debut, the original lineup of G. Love & Special Sauce reunite and return to form on Sugar. Sounding energized and inspired after their hiatus from performing as a trio, singer/guitarist G. Love (Garrett Dutton), bassist Jimi Prescott, and drummer Jeffrey Clemens get back to their signature blend of blues, soul, and hip-hop. The head-nodding jams "Come Up Man," "Nite Life," and the title track capture the old magic, while "Good Life" and "Cheating Heart" add new textures to their sound. The album also features guests Ben Harper and Marc Broussard (vocals on "Nothing Else Quite Like Home"), Merry Clayton (vocals on "One Night Romance"), Shamarr Allen (vocals and horns on "Weekend Dance #2"), and Kristy Lee (vocals on "Saturday Night"). The great David Hidalgo of Los Lobos plays guitar and violin on "Good Life" and "Windshield Wipers." Warm, funky, and loose, Sugar is up there with the original lineup's best work.
