Jonny

Jonny

Jonny is an underground indie-pop supergroup featuring Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci’s Euros Childs. Naturally, a combination like this ensures earnest and indelible pop tunes with vocals and harmonies that reach back to the ‘60s for their prime influences. A track as childlike and joyous as “Candyfloss” is reminiscent of everything from the Beau Brummels to the Partridge Family. The majority of tracks are kept beneath three-and-a half minutes. The nearly eleven-minute “Cave Dance” is the one major exception. It begins as a Crosby, Stills & Nash harmony piece (or should we say the Move?) that jumps around like an ebullient piece of bubblegum, switching into a slowly modulating drone. But the group’s primary approach is to play simple folk-pop tunes such as “I Want to Be Around,” “I’ll Make Her My Best Friend” and “Circling the Sun” that make the day sound like sunshine no matter what else might occur.
